One of the great hopes that came with the NDIS was that people with disability and their families could feel more secure about the future, including where and with whom they live. With recent changes to the NDIS, uncertainty feels particularly acute at the moment.
In this blog, parent Linda Hughes looks at the ingredients that are necessary for a person with disability to thrive living in their own home, and the steps families can take now despite the uncertainty. She concludes that we might not be able to control what happens around the NDIS, but we can keep building the foundations for a good life.

The Meaning of Thriving

When we are seen as someone who contributes, who has something to offer, life opens up. We’re treated with respect. People make space for us. We belong. It’s no different for people with disability; but too often, the roles available to them in community life are limited or even negative. What changes everything is when someone has the opportunity to hold valued roles: to be known for their gifts, their interests, their contributions.

Successful post school transitions
