Are you closely involved in managing your family member’s life and worried about what will happen when you are no longer able to support them?
Michelle will explore the importance of supported decision-making and share practical strategies for making it part of everyday life. She will also discuss how we can safeguard our family members' right to make choices, direct their own lives, and exercise self-determination, now and in the future.
The Future Planning Peer Network is a place where you can share your concerns with others in a similar position and gain information, ideas and practical guidance to help plan for the future.
Facilitated by parent leader Susanna Wagner, the network will meet regularly to explore different topics and will occasionally feature guest speakers who can provide valuable information, insights and ideas.
Susanna and her family live in Sydney. Her 23 year old son, Luca, left school 5 yrs ago. He runs his own microenterprise, Braille by Luca, working with businesses to make their services more accessible to braille users, running workshops in schools and more.
Luca’s Vision is to be known and connected to community through work, study and hobbies, having many opportunities to develop and maintain friendships.
Susanna joined the Resourcing Inclusive Communities Future Planning Peer Network and, together with her family, is now moving forward with their planning and taking action. They are building a circle of support around Luca and considering strategies to ensure Luca enjoys a good life, now and into the future.
A Peer is someone with similar experience to you. A Peer Network is a connected group of peers.
A peer network is not a seminar. It’s a group that works when everyone contributes.
The facilitator is there to help the group stay on track, not to provide all the answers.
