Join our monthly online peer group sessions to connect with other families, share your questions and experiences and learn from each other. Please note that every second session runs at lunch time.
Ensure genuine inclusion of people with disability. Make sure students with disability, gain work experience with the support of their families and explore their options for future paid employment with typical employers in the community.
Bec is the proud mother of two teenage children. After the birth of her son who has an autism diagnosis, she personally experienced the daily barriers that children with disability and their parents face within mainstream society.
Bec has recently been supporting her 15 year old son to gain work experience. She also has years of experience supporting other families to ensure that all students with disability gain suitable and individualised work experience/s.
All sessions will be held online via Zoom, Thursdays (all times in AEST)
A Peer is someone with similar experience to you. A Peer Network is a connected group of peers.
Our peer network is a group of both family members of people with disability and people with disability who are working towards a common vision; sharing their questions, ideas and experiences with one another along the way. A peer network is not a seminar. It’s a group that works when everyone contributes. The facilitator is there to help the group stay on track, not to provide all the answers.
Inclusion is being known as a multi-faceted person – more than “the person with a disability”. It means holding socially valued roles that provide a sense of purpose and a place of belonging in the community with meaningful and reciprocal relationships, being trusted and valued and having access to good formal and informal supports.
Whether you're a family member or a person with disability, just starting to consider employment opportunities and aren’t sure where to start, join us to discuss and share work experience approaches with other families.
