Capacity Development Coordinator - School to Work Project | Resourcing Inclusive Communities

Full-Time Fixed Term Contract - June 2024

Real jobs for real pay is a typical pathway for young Australians however for many young people with disability the likelihood of moving into employment is drastically reduced. To improve these outcomes, this project takes a grassroots approach and works directly with families so that they have the vision, knowledge and capacity to support their children to plan early, harness the use of existing employment pathways and support them in meaningful employment.

More about the School to Work project

This is a consortium project spanning across NSW, ACT and Qld and gives the successful candidate the opportunity to work with capacity building organisations leading the way in this space. This four-year project is just over the half way mark with exciting opportunities to contribute to strengthening this work over the second half. To date we have delivered expansive work covering workshops, webinars, conferences and resource development whilst connecting with over 4000 people across the three organisations.

As the lead organisation, this role entails ensuring our consortium members are supported well in their delivery of the work and that joint learnings from across the jurisdictions are used to enhance the objectives of the project.

The role

What you will be doing

  • Develop and enhance the capacity of family members of people with disability
  • Build and manage relationships with stakeholders, whilst expanding the reach of the organisation across the state
  • Engagement with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD), Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Work alongside consortium members in the delivery of the project
  • Develop content, coordinate, present and co-present at events
  • Coordinate events from webinars through to conferences
  • Resource development.
  • Provide individual consultations to people with disability and their families

Essential Criteria (applications must include a separate document addressing selection criteria)

  • Commitment to the full inclusion of people with disability in the workplace
  • Sound knowledge of contemporary and innovative employment practices that support people with disability into meaningful work such as customised employment and micro enterprises.
  • Experience and skill in developing and presenting workshop content
  • Experience in organising, promoting and facilitating events such as webinars, workshops and conferences
  • Demonstrated capability of working with people with disability and families
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Demonstrated experience with a range of software applications
  • Capacity to travel around NSW and interstate
  • Capacity to occasionally work weekends and evenings.

Desirable

  • Lived experience of disability
  • Exposure to Social Role Valorisation.

Work Location: Hybrid-2 days in Hornsby, 3 days remote                              

Commencement: Immediate

Employment Conditions: Full time Fixed Term to June 2024

Salary:  Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services (SCHADS) Industry Award 2010,

Level 4.4 – 5.3 (depending on experience), $83,400 - $92, 700 with salary packaging available on request.

Communications and Media Manager

Use your communications experience and skills to make a difference in the lives of people with disability.

  • 32 hours per week, Fixed Term Contract to June 2024 with possibility of extension

  • Hybrid work arrangement: two days in Hornsby and two days from home

This hands-on role undertakes a wide variety of tasks, all focused on creating positive social change in the lives of people with developmental disability through the support of their families. 

Family Advocacy

Family Advocacy is a state wide, not for profit disability advocacy organisation that works with families to promote and defend the rights and interests of people with developmental disability. This is achieved by strengthening the advocacy role and influence of families so that they can speak out with, or on behalf, of their family member, or for people with developmental disability more broadly.

The organisation has three core work areas: Advocacy and Leadership Development, Systems Advocacy and capacity building work undertaken in our initiative, Resourcing Inclusive Communities. All areas require support to enhance their work through this Communications and Media Manager role. The role also involves working with senior management on projects, tasks and strategies that impact on the work of the organisation more broadly.

What you will be doing:

  • Managing internal and external communications and branding, including social media
  • Managing websites and interactive technologies
  • Promoting and supporting workshops, webinars and other events such as conferences
  • Driving multi-platform communication strategies
  • Liaising with the media to build the organisation’s profile
  • Developing and managing a wide range of resource materials
  • Liaising with external organisations and suppliers on a range of projects
  • Contributing your understanding of imagery and graphic design to the organisation’s collateral for marketing purposes

Selection Criteria:

Essential: (applications must address each criteria)

  • A commitment to the authentic inclusion of people with disability
  • Mastery of a range of digital technologies including websites, social media, and webinar software (Zoom or similar)
  • Extensive experience with using software programs for graphic design, video editing and electronic direct mail
  • Proven ability to plan and drive social media campaigns and strategies
  • A tertiary qualification in communications, media or marketing, or equivalent qualification or experience
  • High quality writing skills and the ability to produce clear and compelling content and information
  • Experience in event promotion and marketing
  • 5 years’ experience in a similar role

Desirable:

  • Personal experience of disability or as a family member of a person who has a developmental disability
  • Awareness of, and a commitment to, the principles of Social Role Valorisation, or a willingness to gain such understanding and commitment
  • Experience with podcast and video production
  • Passion to work in a non-profit, advocacy organisation striving for social change

Work Location: Hybrid-2 days in Hornsby, 3 days remote                              

Commencement: Immediate          

Employment Conditions: 32 hours per week, Fixed Term to June 2024       

Salary: Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services (SCHADS) Industry Award 2010, level 6, $81,600-$85,200 part time hours ($96,900-$101,200 pro rata) with salary packaging available on request
